Westside Activities

Our students like to stay active. Learn about just a few of the extracurricular activities we offer below.

5th Grade Choir

Our Kids Chorus is open to 5th grade students who enjoy singing and want to have fun performing in the community. Kids Chorus meets on most Tuesdays in the Westside Music Room from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Please see calendar for specific dates.) Please contact our music teacher for more information. Interested in participating in choir? Please download the spring 2020 schedule and form.

READY, SET, RUN! Each year our students work on developing their fitness through running laps 1-2 times per week during recess with the goal of qualifying for the end-of-year Westside Marathon. There will be a total of 38 running days this year with varying lap requirements to qualify for the final marathon based on grade level. There won’t be any extra days for making up laps. It is our hope that students elect to participate in this fun and healthy activity, and of course participate in the year end marathon celebration.

W.E. Bots Club - Coming Soon

Full STEM Ahead! Our W.E. Bot Club intends to offer students hands-on experiences in designing, creating and programming Legos robots. By applying a combination of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts and skills students will problem-solve and code their robots to complete selected challenges. In order to make the W.E. Bot Club a successful experience for all, there are some ground rules, also known as “the code” that everyone needs to follow. It is important to read the code carefully and make certain you are willing to commit to it.

  1. Attendance: All W.E. Bot kids must attend at least 75% of the clubs each month in order to make progress and participate in challenges. That is about ¾ each month.
  2. Responsibility: All members are responsible for the kit assigned to them.
    • Keep all parts in your kit. Do NOT mix your pieces with others.
    • Keep track of all your parts. Do not lose them.
    • Treat the pieces and parts well.
    • Check out kits at beginning of club and check in kits at end of each club.
  3. Work cooperatively. Everyone is assigned a partner with whom they will collaborate and share a robot. Teamwork is a goal.
    • Share the kit.
    • Use kind and helpful words.
    • Listen to one another’s ideas and questions.
    • Plan together and problem-solve together. Two minds are greater than one.
  4. Show grit! This club requires everyone to learn from failures and try hard to find solutions.

Using state-of-the-art technology is an important skill to acquire in our 21st-century world. Our W.E. Bot Club makes concepts of science, technology, engineering, and math fun!

Contact us if your child is interested in joining our W.E. Bot Club.

Student Council

The Student Council is the voice of Westside Students. Students are provided an opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity at all grade levels. Student Council works with teachers and the principal in identifying ways to improve the school and help the community. The Council organizes monthly school spirit days, operates a school store, plan fun dress up days, participates in school activities, and promotes bucket filling and good citizenship throughout the school!

Our Student Council sponsors are Stephanie Belmont and Sunshine Dunkerley

Giving Opportunities

Community outreach is important to us here at Westside. Please take the opportunity to learn ways you can contribute to our community.
